CNN’s headline read: “Three Israelis killed in shooting at West Bank crossing,” without mentioning that the shooting was committed by a Palestinian or that it was an act of terrorism.
Only much further down in the article does the report quote police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, who stated that “the alleged attacker, a 37-year-old Palestinian man from the village of Beit Surik, was killed by police.”
The media largely framed the murders in the context of “Israeli settlements” in the “occupied West Bank,” essentially justifying the deadly attack.

Hamas and the PA suppress freedom of the press and prosecute journalists who expose their corruption.
A Palestinian journalist who exposed corruption in the Gaza Strip was prosecuted by Hamas, the terrorist group that governs the enclave, veteran Palestinian affairs correspondent Khaled Abu Toameh reported last week.
In June 2016, Hajer Harb reported that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) extorted Palestinians seeking medical care in Israel, Europe and elsewhere in the Arab world. Both Hamas and the PA, along with doctors who collaborated with them, demanded bribes from Palestinian patients seeking permits for better medical treatment. The report charged that those who didn’t pay the bribes were “left to die in understaffed and under-equipped Palestinian hospitals.”
The leaders of the PA and Hamas were furious with the investigative report that exposed what some Palestinians referred to as the “mafia of destruction.”
After Harb’s report was published, Hamas official called her for an interrogation but she refused to reveal her sources without a court order.
“The prosecution told me that I was facing the following charges: impersonation of another person (they claim I did not reveal my real identity during the investigative report); slandering the Ministry of Health, publishing inaccurate and incorrect information and working with ‘foreign parties’ (by preparing a report for a London-based television station under the pretext that the media organization is not registered with the Press Office in the Gaza Strip),” Harb recalled.
Ironically, Abu Toameh reported that Harb herself required a permit to seek medical treatment for cancer in Jordan. However, human rights groups intervened on her behalf and she did not have to pay a bribe to get the permit.
While she was abroad, she was sentenced by a Hamas court to six months in prison and fined 1000 shekels ($250). If and when Harb returns to Gaza she will be arrested and jailed.
Critics have condemned Hamas for attempting to silence a journalist.
The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) denounced the verdict against Harb, calling it a “very serious precedent against media freedoms.” MADA called the legal action against Harb a “setback to the growing repression of media freedoms” under both the PA and Hamas. “MADA, wishing a speedy recovery for our colleague [Harb], strongly condemns this decision, which lacks fair trial procedures.”
Hamas Crushes Criticism
Jihad Harb (no relation), a Palestinian political analyst, characterized the verdict as an effort to both silence journalists and protect the corrupt practices of Hamas government in Gaza.
“The court ruling against the journalist did not come as a surprise,” Harb said. “However, it came as a shock because of the magnitude of the assault on freedom of expression and the media.” He noted that Hamas targeted the one exposing the corruption, not those involved in it.
Talal Al-Sharif, a Palestinian writer who was imprisoned for six months for criticizing Hamas, expressed his support for Harb, observing that he never received support from the PA even though he criticized Hamas, which Abu Toameh noted, also tolerates no criticism from journalists.
“The court verdict passed on Hajer Harb, and the ongoing punitive measures against Palestinian journalists in the PA and Gaza Strip, serve as yet another reminder that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority have no respect for freedom of expression and media freedoms,” Abu Toameh wrote. “Hamas and the PA may be at war with each other, but they both agree that the media is an enemy that needs to be defeated, to prevent the world from learning about corruption and repression.”
In August 2016, the nonprofit organization Human Rights Watch condemned the treatment of journalists by both Hamas and the PA, stating that their tactics led to a “chilling effect” on freedom of expression in the Palestinian territories. “Both Palestinian governments, operating independently, have apparently arrived at similar methods of harassment, intimidation and physical abuse of anyone who dares criticize them,” said Sari Bashi, HRW’s Israel/Palestine director.

Fascinating evidence of ancient burial and ritual customs in the Canaanite period were recently uncovered near Jerusalem’s Biblical Zoo, including the remains of decapitated toads found in a jar in a millennia-old tomb.
The dig, launched by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), also revealed evidence of cultivation of date palms and myrtle bushes, perhaps as part of funerary rituals.
Why were decapitated toads placed in a jar in a 4,000-year-old tomb in Jerusalem? The findings shed light on burial customs in the Canaanite period, also known as the Middle Bronze Age. The archaeological excavation, which took place in 2014 prior to the expansion of the Manaḥat neighborhood in Jerusalem, yielded the remains of at least nine toads and several other unique discoveries.
Shua Kisilevitz and Zohar Turgeman-Yaffe, excavation directors on behalf of the IAA, explained that the section of the Nahal Repha’im basin, the site of the excavation, was fertile ground for habitats throughout time, especially during the Canaanite period.
“In recent years, excavations in the area have uncovered two habitat sites, two pagan temples and a number of cemeteries, which provide new insight into the life of the local population at that time.
“For an archaeologist, finding tombs that were intentionally sealed in antiquity is a priceless treasure, because they are a time capsule that allows us to encounter objects almost just as they were originally left,” Kisilevitz and Turgeman-Yaffe said.
During the Canaanite period, “it was customary to bury the dead with offerings that constituted a kind of ‘burial kit, which, it was believed, would serve the deceased in the afterworld,” said the researchers.
“When we removed the stone that blocked the tomb opening, we were excited to discover intact bowls and jars. In one of the jars, to our surprise, we found a heap of small bones,” the two archeologists recounted.
The study of the bones, by Dr. Lior Weisbrod of the University of Haifa, revealed at least nine toads. Interestingly, they had been decapitated.
Ancient Symbols of Fertility and Rejuvenation
Another intriguing finding came to light through analysis of sediments collected from the clay jars. The examination, by Dr. Dafna Langgut of Tel Aviv University, revealed that shortly before the vessels were placed in the tomb, they came into contact with various plants including date palms and myrtle bushes.
This fact is attention-grabbing because this is not the natural habitat for those species, and they therefore seem to have been planted here intentionally.
Langgut explained that the date palm symbolized fertility and rejuvenation during the ancient era, which could explain why the ancients cultivated the trees in this environment, where they do not grow naturally.
According to the scholars, these plants may have been part of an orchard planted in an area where funeral rituals were held, during which offerings of food and objects were made to the deceased. The scholars surmise that the jar with the headless toads was among these offerings.

La scavatura, lanciata dall'Autorità Israeliana degli Antiquari (IAA), ha anche rivelato la prova della coltivazione di palme e arbusti di mirto, forse come parte di riti funerari.
Perché sono stati decapitati rospi disposti in un barattolo in una tomba di 4.000 anni a Gerusalemme? I risultati hanno fatto luce sulle abitudini di sepoltura nel periodo cananeo, noto anche come l'Età del Bronzo Medio. Lo scavo archeologico, che si è svolto nel 2014 prima dell'espansione del quartiere di Manaḥat a Gerusalemme, ha reso i resti di almeno nove rospi e molte altre scoperte uniche.
Shua Kisilevitz e Zohar Turgeman-Yaffe, direttori di scavo per conto dell'IAA, hanno spiegato che la sezione del bacino Nahal Repha'im, il sito dello scavo, è stato terreno fertile per gli habitat durante il tempo, soprattutto durante il periodo cananeo.
"Negli ultimi anni, gli scavi della zona hanno scoperto due siti di habitat, due templi pagani e un certo numero di cimiteri, che forniscono una nuova visione della vita della popolazione locale in quel momento.
"Per un archeologo, trovare tombe che sono state intenzionalmente sigillate nell'antichità è un tesoro inestimabile, perché sono una capsula di tempo che ci permette di incontrare oggetti quasi come originariamente rimasti", ha detto Kisilevitz e Turgeman-Yaffe.
Durante il periodo cananeo, "era ordinario seppellire i morti con offerte che costituivano una sorta di" corredo di sepoltura, che, si credeva, servirebbe il defunto nel dopo-mondo ", ha detto i ricercatori.
"Quando abbiamo rimosso la pietra che ha bloccato l'apertura della tomba, siamo stati eccitati a scoprire intatte ciotole e vasi. In uno dei vasi, con nostra sorpresa, abbiamo trovato un mucchio di piccole ossa ", raccontano i due archeologi.
Lo studio delle ossa, dal dottor Lior Weisbrod dell'Università di Haifa, ha rivelato almeno nove rospi. È interessante notare che erano stati decapitati.
Antichi simboli di fertilità e ringiovanimento
Un'altra scoperta intrigante è venuta alla luce attraverso l'analisi dei sedimenti raccolti dai vasi di argilla. L'esame, da parte del dottor Dafna Langgut dell'Università di Tel Aviv, ha rivelato che poco prima che le navi vengano collocate nella tomba, sono entrati in contatto con varie piante, tra cui palme da data e cespugli di mirto.
Questo fatto è attirare l'attenzione perché questo non è l'habitat naturale di quelle specie, e quindi sembrano essere state introdotte intenzionalmente.
Langgut ha spiegato che la palma di data simboleggiava la fertilità e il ringiovanimento durante l'antica era, che potrebbe spiegare perché gli antichi coltivavano gli alberi in questo ambiente, dove non crescono naturalmente.
Secondo gli studiosi, queste piante potrebbero essere state parte di un frutteto piantato in una zona dove si sono tenuti riti funebri, durante i quali furono offerte le offerte di cibo e oggetti al defunto. Gli studiosi affermano che il vaso con i rospi senza testa era tra queste offerte.

27.09.2017( Tatiana Santi Fa discutere in queste ore il documento firmato da decine di studiosi e professori nel quale si accusa il Pontefice di aver sostenuto nell’esortazione apostolica Amoris Laetitia sette proposizioni eretiche. Papa Francesco accusato di eresia, parla uno dei firmatari della Correctio filialis.
Recentemente è stata resa pubblica la Correctio filialis, una lettera di 25 pagine inviata precedentemente in forma riservata a Papa Francesco nel mese di agosto. Nel documento, che ha provocato un forte impatto sui media di tutto il mondo, i firmatari chiedono a Bergoglio di fare chiarezza su alcune valutazioni da lui espresse in merito ai principi dell'etica coniugale e della legge morale.
Non è giunta per il momento alcuna risposta da parte del Papa, nel frattempo Sputnik Italia ha raggiunto per un'intervista Giovanni Turco, docente universitario di filosofia del diritto pubblico, uno dei firmatari della Correctio filialis.
— Professor Turco, lei è uno dei firmatari del documento contro "Amoris Laetitia" di Papa Francesco. Perché ha deciso di firmare?

— Io ho firmato, dopo aver ovviamente a lungo riflettuto, perché ho ritenuto che si trattasse di un mio dovere morale. Prendendo atto dell'analisi del testo Amoris Laetitia e riscontrandovi elementi che mettono in gioco i principi della fede e della morale, ho ritenuto un atto di carità intellettuale sottoscrivere il documento.
— Che cosa in particolare ha suscitato la vostra preoccupazione nell'esortazione apostolica di Papa Francesco?
— La preoccupazione nasce dalla sostanza delle tesi del Testo, così come esse vengono poi analizzate dal documento della Correctio filialis. Si tratta di questioni che riguardano il fondamento della morale e i fondamenti della responsabilità personale di ciascuno, ed in particolare i principi dell'etica coniugale.
Di fronte all'importanza di tali questioni non si può tacere, perché è chiaro che da valutazioni erronee sotto il profilo della considerazione derivano generalmente dei comportamenti conseguenti.
— Il fulcro delle critiche riguarda soprattutto l'etica coniugale quindi?
— Riguarda soprattutto l'etica coniugale, ma non esclusivamente. In fondo, il testo di cui parliamo, cioè la Correctio filialis che parte dall'analisi di Amoris Laetitia, tocca questioni basilari come la possibilità di essere con l'aiuto della grazia fedeli in tutto ciò che la legge morale richiede. Questo sia nel matrimonio sia in ogni stato di vita. Che con la grazia è possibile essere pienamente fedeli alla legge morale è un principio di carattere dottrinale e teologale assolutamente irrinunciabile.
— Con questo documento che cosa vorreste ottenere concretamente? Qual è lo scopo?

— Io posso parlare solo a nome mio personale. Ognuno ha sottoscritto il documento impegnando la propria responsabile decisione. Il documento punta a fare chiarezza su questioni decisive per quanto riguarda tutta la vita morale cristiana.
Il documento desidera che siano corrette certe formulazioni, che l'insegnamento, il quale si rivolge a tutti i cattolici nel mondo, sia chiaro per quanto riguarda i principi e le implicazioni.
— Il documento è stato reso pubblico ora, ma è stato redatto anteriormente. Il Papa non ha ancora reagito al vostro documento se non sbaglio?
— Il documento è stato inviato nel mese di agosto e, come i firmatari hanno spiegato alla stampa, è stato inviato in forma riservata in modo tale che potesse essere oggetto di risposta. Non avendo avuto nessuna risposta è stato reso pubblico. Il testo, ora pubblico, è stato appunto prima reso noto al Pontefice.
Sino ad ora non ci sono state risposte, non so se ci saranno. Non ho elementi per prevederlo né per escluderlo. Vedremo. Ad ogni modo, il documento ha avuto grande attenzione in tutto il mondo, proprio per l'importanza delle questioni che pone. Occorre riconoscere il primato della verità. La dottrina insegnata dalla Chiesa risale a Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo, non può essere oggetto di cambiamenti né può essere modificata secondo le opinioni personali di chicchessia. Parliamo della fermezza e della stabilità che viene dalla Sacra Scrittura e dalla Tradizione apostolica, ed è stato trasmesso, giungendo fino a noi.
— Al di là del documento da voi firmato, secondo lei il fatto che Bergoglio apra a Putin e che insieme vogliano unire i cristiani può dar fastidio ad una parte del mondo cattolico?
— Quest'aspetto credo non abbia nessuna incidenza rispetto all'oggetto sotto il profilo dottrinale della Correctio filialis. Si tratta di riconoscere che la verità dal punto di vista della fede e della morale è il criterio dell'agire. Ciò che appartiene all'ordine dei principi è direttivo di ogni agire. Il testo di cui stiamo parlando non ha, almeno immediatamente, nessun rapporto con altri aspetti e iniziative intrapresi su altri versanti.

If you were here in Israel yesterday, by late afternoon you may have found it very strange, for you wouldn't have seen anyone. By 2 p.m. all the businesses and shops were closed. Not even gas stations were open. Not one car was on the road in the whole country. The only broadcast on television was a still photo of a shofar calling the people of Israel to fast and pray. NO TV, NO RADIO. You could hear a pin drop. That was last night, Erev Yom Kippur ... TODAY IS YOM KIPPUR, THE DAY OF ATONEMENT! Biblically speaking, this day is the holiest of the year. Here in Israel and in Jewish communities around the world everyone is in their local synagogue. Even many secular Jews who don’t observe other Jewish holidays consider this day, with its themes of atonement and repentance, significant. “It shall be a statute to you forever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no kind of work, the native-born, or the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you.” (Leviticus 16:29) Jews Praying in the Synagogue on Yom Kippur, by Maurycy Gottlieb, 1878. Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) is a solemn fast day. On Yom Kippur, for nearly 26 hours, we “afflict our souls” in the following five ways: We don’t eat or drink; We don’t wash; We don’t use lotions or perfumes; We don’t wear leather footwear; and We abstain from marital relations. Despite that, the observance of this day is characterized by a sense of peace because of our confidence in our relationship with God and His provision for atonement. In order to minister before the Lord on this holy day, Aaron first bathed in water (immersed himself in the mikvah) and then put on a special linen tunic. In the Holy of Holies, the high priest was not to wear his usual golden garments, designed for splendor and beauty; instead, he was to wear simple, white linen clothing that represented purity and humility, which befits this most sacred of all days. Many Jewish men wear a kittel, a white robe-like garment, for evening prayers on Yom Kippur. It is also worn on their wedding day. Wearing White on Yom Kippur Today, many religiously observant Jewish men dress in simple, white linen when attending Yom Kippur services. They also wear rubber soled sneakers instead of leather shoes, in remembrance of Yom Kippur’s animal sacrifice. And women will wear elegant dresses while wearing canvas running shoes. The rabbis give another reason for wearing white on this holy day. Israel comes before God, not in drab clothing like a penitent sinner, but arrayed in white as if going to a feast, confident that they will be pardoned as they come in sincere repentance. In the Book of Revelation, we see a connection to the tradition of wearing white and the Book of Life: “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” (Revelation 3:5) Kapparot is a ritual some Jews perform before Yom Kippur, where a chicken is waved over the head three times in order to symbolically transfer one's sins to the chicken. The chicken is then slaughtered and donated to the poor. Since the Holy Temple is no longer standing and no sacrifices for sin can be offered, those who know Yeshua (Jesus) can trust in the sacrifice that He made for our atonement. However, about 99% of the Jewish People today do not believe that Yeshua is the Messiah. And with no Temple in Jerusalem for the past 2,000 years, they have replaced the animal blood sacrifice with prayer (tefilah), repentance (teshuvah), and charity or good deeds (tzedakah). Perhaps we can give credit to the Ultra-Orthodox Jews who sacrifice chickens because they still acknowledge the need for a blood sacrifice (even though this is not the animal prescribed in the Torah for sacrifice). And as we are now in the End Times, perhaps it will make it easier for these Ultra-Orthodox Jews to recognize the atoning sacrifice Yeshua accomplished on our behalf as the Messiah. The Azazel "But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the Lord to be used for making atonement by sending it into the desert as a scapegoat." (Leviticus 16:10) On Yom Kippur, the High Priests cast lots for two goats. One was offered as the sacrifice, but the other goat was chosen as the Azazel (the scapegoat). Azazel is a very special Hebrew noun meaning dismissal or entire removal. The entire removal of the sin and guilt of Israel is symbolized by the High Priest laying both his hands on the head of this live goat, confessing over it all the transgressions of the children of Israel. The goat would then be released into the wilderness, thus physically carrying the burden of Israel’s sin into the wasteland. The Golden Gate, which is called Sha'ar HaRachamim (Gate of Mercy) in Hebrew, is located on the eastern side of the Temple Mount. It's thought that the Azazel was led through this gate to the wilderness. It's also thought that Messiah will come through this gate. Suleiman wanted to prevent this and had the gate sealed in 1541. A Muslim cemetery was placed in front of it to defile the area. The Azazel and Messiah Yeshua “He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites—all their sins—and put them on the goat’s head. He shall send the goat away into the wilderness in the care of someone appointed for the task. The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a remote place; and the man shall release it in the wilderness.” (Leviticus 16:21–22) There are striking similarities between these verses in Leviticus 16 and those of Isaiah 53: "And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all… For He shall bear their iniquities…." (Isaiah 53:6, 11) Rabbis of ancient times viewed Isaiah 53 as a Messianic prophecy. Most agreed that it speaks of the Messiah of Israel. Sadly, this Messianic prophecy has been effectively hidden from most Jewish people, even those who faithfully attend synagogue services, by omitting the entire chapter from the Sabbath readings. Why? Maybe because they so perfectly describe the atonement Yeshua made for us through the sacrifice of His own life as the suffering servant. This interpretation seems to have gained serious adherents only in the 13th century. In reality, it is a complete lie that is promoted throughout the Jewish community to blind Jewish people from seeing that Isaiah 53 perfectly describes Yeshua who suffered for our sins. Not all rabbis have agreed with this willfully wrong interpretation. In a strongly worded 14th century commentary, Rabbi Moshe Kohen ibn Crispin responded to this theory: “[In contrast to those] having inclined after the stubbornness of their own hearts and their own opinion, I am pleased to interpret the parasha [Isaiah 53] in accordance with the teachings of our rabbis, of the King Messiah… and adhere to the literal sense. Thus I shall be free from forced and far-fetched interpretations of which others are guilty.” Moses Alshech, a 16th century rabbi, preacher, and Bible commentator simply affirmed the common belief. He said, “Our rabbis with one voice accept and affirm the opinion that the prophet [Isaiah] is here [chapter 53] speaking of the Messiah.” This Siddur (Jewish Prayer Book) is resting on a table at the Western Wall adorned with a velvet tablecloth that is embroidered with an image of the Second Temple. The fringed garment is a folded tallit (prayer shawl). Numerous Rabbinic commentators also take for granted that Isaiah 52:13–53:12 refers to the Messiah. The following quotes are gleaned from traditional rabbinic sources, such as the Talmud (oral law): “He, Messiah, shall intercede for man’s sins, and the rebellious, for his sake, shall be forgiven.” (Jerusalem Targum on Isaiah 53:12) “And when Israel is sinful, the Messiah seeks for mercy upon them as it is written, ‘By his stripes we were healed,’ and ‘he carried the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.’” (Genesis Rabbah on Isaiah 53:5, 12) In a limited sense, however, the claims that Israel has suffered as an azazel "scapegoat" for the nations are true. Because of the blindness with which Adonai temporarily afflicted Israel with regard to their Messiah, salvation (Yeshua) has come to the Gentiles. "For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in… and so all Israel shall be saved…. (Romans 11:25–27) Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak comforts a bereaved mother at a memorial service for soldiers who died in the Yom Kippur War, when Israel's Arab neighbors invaded Israel on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, in 1973, while the nation was fasting and in prayer. Iniquity and a Lasting Atonement "And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity [avon] of us all." (Isaiah 53:6) In Hebrew, the word iniquity is avon. This word differs from the Hebrew word for sin (chata) which means to fall short and miss the mark. Avon is rooted in the Hebrew verb avah meaning to twist and to distort. It signifies an inner crookedness or spiritual state of being bent, in other words perversity, as well as a willful departure from the law (Torah) of God. While the ordinary sacrifices were limited to atoning for involuntary or unintentional sins, this special sacrifice on Yom Kippur atoned for willful sin. The blood of bulls and goats can never fully remove sin and iniquity; it can only cover it for a time. A perfect, absolutely sinless One was required to pay the price for our rebellion and uncleanness. Only Yeshua the Messiah could fulfill this role. As the Messiah, His body and blood are the Kapparah (atonement) and Korban (sacrificial offering) for our sins. And when He rose on the third day, He revealed the absolute holiness of His life and the effectiveness of His sacrifice on the execution stake for all mankind. Rabbinic tradition states that on Yom Kippur the Cohen (Jewish priest) would tie a scarlet cloth to the horn of the Azazel and that when the sacrifice was fully accepted, the scarlet cloth became white. Assurance of Atonement for Sin “Sins overwhelmed me, but You atoned for our transgressions.” (Psalm 65:3) The rabbis recognized that every man is in need of atonement for his sins, for it is written, “There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20) A Talmudic story is recorded in which Yohanan ben Zakkai's disciples gather around his deathbed and find him weeping. They ask, “Rabbi, you are the light of Israel, the pillar on which we lean, the hammer that crushes all heresy. Why should you weep?” In answer, the rabbi confesses that he is afraid to die because he is not sure whether he will end up in heaven or hell. Although God has provided atonement for all of our sins through the blood of the Messiah Yeshua, nearly all the Jewish people today are completely unaware of God's Plan of Salvation through the Jewish Messiah.
